How We Assess Impact
Measuring and assessing the impact of the careers programme on students
At Wave Multi Academy Trust we believe it is very important to assess the impact of our careers programme on our students. We do this in a number of ways.
First, we identify and analyse the destinations of our Year 11 students taking into account their prior attainment. For Year 11 students, we record pathways including:
- GCSE Results
- Level 1 courses
- Level 2 courses
- Employability certificates
- Analysis of sector based outcomes to ensure our advice is relevant to the jobs available and to ensure that we promote equality of opportunity
The proportion of students going onto:
- Apprenticeships
- Traineeship
- FE College
- School Sixth Form
- Sixth Form College
- Employment with Training
- Other
- At risk of becoming NEET
Secondly, working with CSW we track students from the end of Year 11, identifying and reviewing where students leave or change courses/apprenticeships.
Third, at the end of the academic year (starting from 20-21 academic year) we will obtain the views of students on the Careers, Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) they received during their time at school. We ask all Year 11 to complete an on-line survey to find out their views on individual elements of the CEIAG programme and their overall assessment of the programme. In addition, our Enterprise Advisers (business volunteers who support the school develop its careers provision), meet representative groups of Year 11 to find out more about what they liked and disliked about the careers programme and ways they believe it can be improved.
Fourth, we value the views of parents and carers on how well we have helped them to support their child or children make rational informed career decisions, (starting from 20-21 academic year) this will be done by using an on-line survey at the end of the academic year.
Fifth, business volunteers are asked for their feedback on each individual careers events that they take part in, such as ‘I Love My Job’ talks, a speed networking session or mock interviews. In addition, the school’s Enterprise Advisers evaluate the careers programme from a business viewpoint and collate the views of other business volunteers (starting from 20-21 academic year).

- Promoting equality, diversity, social mobility and challenging stereotypes.

- Enabling pupils to sustain employability and achieve personal and economic wellbeing throughout their lives.
8. Commitment
Wave Multi Academy Trust is committed to providing careers education, information, advice and guidance to all pupils from Year 8 to 13. The Trust will deliver a careers programme in partnership with external providers and internal tutors, to ensure that all pupils have access to high quality impartial advice and guidance. The Trust will adhere to the Gatsby Benchmarks (a framework of 8 guidelines that define the best careers provision in schools). Wave is currently developing the measures to assess the impact of the careers programme on pupils.
- A stable careers program
Embedded programme of career education and guidance that is known and understood by pupils, parents, teachers and employers. - Learning from career and labour market information
Every pupil, and their parents, will have access to good-quality information about future study options and labour market opportunities. They will need the support of an informed adviser to make best use of available information. - Addressing the needs of each pupil
Pupils have different career guidance needs at different stages. Opportunities for advice and support need to be tailored to the needs of each pupil. The Trusts careers programme will embed equality and diversity considerations throughout. - Linking curriculum learning to careers
All teachers will link curriculum learning with careers. For example, STEM subject teachers will highlight the relevance of STEM subjects for a wide range of future career paths. - Encounters with employers and employees
Every pupil will have multiple opportunities to learn from employers about work, employment and the skills that are valued in the workplace. This may be through a range of enrichment activities including visiting speakers, mentoring and enterprise schemes. - Experiences of workplaces
Every pupil will have first-hand experiences of the workplace through work visits, work shadowing and/or work experience to help their exploration of career opportunities and expand their networks. - Encounters with further and higher education
All pupils should understand the full range of learning opportunities that are available to them. This includes both academic and vocational routes and learning in schools, colleges, universities and in the workplace. - Personal guidance
Every pupil will have opportunities for guidance interviews with a career’s adviser, who could be internal (a member of school staff) or external, provided they are trained to an appropriate level (Level 6 Careers Guidance). These should be available whenever significant study or career choices are being made. They should be expected for all pupils but should be timed to meet their individual needs.
