Staff and pupils at a local school received a special delivery this week when the team from Amazon’s Delivery Station in Exeter stopped by with a £2,000 donation.

Stansfield Academy in Exeter, which is part of the WAVE Multi Academy Trust, received the donation as part of the ‘Amazon In The Community’ programme, whereby the company supports the communities around its operating locations across the UK.

WAVE Multi Academy Trust works with young people across Devon and Cornwall who need an alternative to a traditional classroom education. Their Exeter site caters for up to 70 students from Key Stage 1 to 4 who have experienced difficulty in a mainstream school and who benefit from the smaller and more supportive environment. With young people they create personalised learning plans that ensure their education is right for them and will inspire them to achieve the best they can. Their aim is to secure high quality outcomes for young people through exceptional teaching and learning and outstanding leadership and management.

The donation has gone towards a trip to Escot Country Park, where they took a class of kids for an overnight stay. The children had plenty of fun and socialising, taking part in activities and games they may not have had the chance to experience otherwise. The money has also brought a couple of sturdy pedal Go-Karts that have caused quite a stir with the children. They love to pedal around their play area.

To mark the donation, members of Amazon’s Exeter Delivery Station team visited Stansfield Academy to meet some of the teachers and pupils at the school.

Amazon’s Exeter Delivery Station Manager, Jon Lasker, said:

“On behalf of the Amazon team in Exeter I would like to say a big thank you to Stansfield Academy for inviting us to meet some of the staff and pupils. It was great to meet everyone and we’re pleased to provide this donation, we hope it goes towards helping more children re-engage with education and create some life long memories.”

Emily Johnston from Stansfield Academy added:

“We’re really thankful to receive this support from Amazon in Exeter and it was great to meet Jon and his team. To have a business like Amazon behind us is really encouraging. This donation will help many more children in our community.”
