ECT
The Early Career Teacher (ECT) Programme is a training package to support all early career teachers from newly qualified to the fifth year of teaching. Following the completion of Initial Teacher Training and once in post as a teacher the ECT programme provides developmental opportunities to continually improve classroom practice through face-to-face training, reading, reflection, action research and observations. This replaces the Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT) programme.

We all like comfort and routine, however getting too comfortable in your role can leave you at a loss for where to go next.
Here are our tops tips to help you think about how you progress your career;
- Make a plan, often known as a personal development plan
- Take advantage and seize the opportunity to have your appraisal and reviews with your line manager
- Motivate yourself to achieve your goals
- Become familiar with your sector
- Continuously develop your skills
- Find a mentor or a buddy that will support you and give you honest feedback
Networking is one of the most effective ways of career progression, connecting with people and learning from the experiences of others will help you learn, develop and grow.
CPD
We aim to empower our staff through Continued Professional Development (CPD).
Wave is dedicated to helping all employees become better at what they do.
- CPD is a combination of approaches, ideas, and techniques that assist you in managing your own learning and growth. It is an investment that you make in yourself. It contributes directly to your professional development by linking what you learn directly to what you do in the real world.
- Continued Professional Development can help you keep your skills and knowledge up to date and prepare you to take on greater responsibilities. As a result, it can boost your confidence, strengthen your professional credibility, and enable you to be more creative while facing new challenges.
Flight Path
A flight path is a series of jobs that help you achieve your goals and objectives.
In order to reach your ultimate career goal you may need to do several different jobs. A flight path does not necessarily have to follow a straight line. Climbing the career ladder has no blueprint or timetable.
Typically flight paths refer to either your path through a sector or your path through an organisation.
For example, if you want to become a Principal you would typically start as a teacher and earn your administrative/leadership credentials as you teach, for example;
Education: Teaching Assistant → Higher Level Teaching Assistant → Teacher → Middle Leader → Senior Leader → Principal → Executive Principal
Human resources: HR Advisor→ HR Business Partner→ Head of Human Resources → Director of HR
Whether you become a teacher and advance to Senior Leadership or try something entirely different, Wave Multi Academy Trust is committed to providing staff with opportunities to grow and develop.
